My smoothie cravings are very specific. I don’t crave the icy, brain freeze inducing variety but rather those with a creamy, milkshake consistency. If you understand this very important difference we should hang out sometime. Do a little shopping, maybe take in a movie, and then make creamy, milkshake consistency type smoothies together.
A while back I did a post on the topic of flash freezing. Smoothies are a big part of my motivation to freeze stuff. The absolute best smoothies, in my humble opinion, are made with frozen fruit so I like to have lots of different varieties in my freezer so we can whip up smoothies anytime we feel like it. Boy #4 whips up smoothies even more often than I do, so one recent morning as he headed towards the blender I grabbed my Nikon to capture the magic of my 18 year old son working in the kitchen. Yes, I do consider these moments magical.
Non-fat plain Greek yogurt is what will give your smoothie that creamy consistency that is oh, so important. It’s high in protein and calcium, and the texture of the stuff is just amazing. This recipe is based on what I had in my freezer at the moment but you can substitute a variety of fruits or berries for the peaches and strawberries if those just don’t do it for you. Whatever fruit you’ve got on hand or whatever strikes your fancy at the store is going to be great. Then you’ll just need a little milk, some honey, and your trusty blender.
Everything goes in the blender.
A tablespoon of honey; we usually just eyeball it.
About 3/4 cup milk should do it but you can adjust the amount to get the correct consistency.

Creamy Strawberry Peach Smoothie
Yield: 2 (12 ounce) smoothies
- 1 cup non-fat plain Greek yogurt
- 1 cup frozen peaches
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 3/4 cup milk, or as needed
- 1 tablespoon honey
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Add additional milk, if needed, to achieve desired consistency.
